Birding in Oman

Oman is one of Arabia’s wildest, most unspoilt, friendliest, and safest travel destinations. From the rugged mountains of the north to the lush wadis of the south and from its expansive deserts to its rich coast, Oman has it all. In this tour, we’ll take a tour through the whole country, showcasing the magnificent birds this jewel of Arabia has to offer.

“One step beyond” – taking your birding further

Ever wondered how old that Blackbird is? If that Starling is male or female? If “the” Robin in the garden really is the same Robin you see all year round? Where that flock of Redwings in the local park have come from – and where they might be off to? There’s always a lot to learn about “familiar” local birds, and this talk will show you how to take your observations beyond simply identifying the species you're seeing.

Four years at Falsterbo

Falsterbo is one of the world’s foremost sites for bird migration, with more than a million birds passing each year. Ringers at the ringing station there handle tens of thousands of birds each year, and I was lucky enough to spend six seasons over four years working there. This talk details the birds caught – from the common to the rare; the spectacle of bird migration at the site; and some of the extraordinary movements that take place each year.
