With such large numbers of Common Crossbills migrating over yesterday, I was confident that I might be in with a chance of catching one; with standardised ringing over, I'd be able to play the call all morning and put up an extra net. However, the was one critical ingredient missing: the crossbills. It was a quiet morning all-round in fact with just five birds ringed.
I spent the rest of the day cleaning the station ready for departure; this Garden Warbler serenaded me through the window while I cleaned the kitchen.
